Amhara Regional State generates over 4 bln Birr from tourism
Bahir Dar, July 14, 2023 (AMECO) – Amhara state disclosed that it had managed to secure over 4 billion Birr from tourism during the last Ethiopian fiscal year.
Amhara State Culture and Tourism Bureau Deputy Head Abay Mengiste told the Ethiopia Press Agency (EPA) that in the just concluded fiscal year, many tourists most of them were local ones, visited the state and it secured the aforesaid revenue as peace is relatively maintained.
The state has been working hard to create conducive atmosphere for tourists and tourist inflow has been on rise following the effective peace process.
The deputy head also said that the bureau had planned to attract 9 million domestic visitors during the last fiscal year, but, the domestic tourist arrivals exceeded the plan by 4 million.
It was also learnt the state had expected 103,000 foreign visitors during the reported period; nevertheless, over 21,000 tourists visited the state.
“The state is working to elongate tourists’ stay at religious holidays, natural and manmade tourist attraction sites by promoting the status of the areas more and more,” he added.
Moreover, the state is also exerting its utmost effort to make better tourist destinations in terms of making them conducive for transport, hotel accommodation and provide visitors with appealing services, Abay said.
