A $20 billion Program to Rehabilitate, Revitalize Conflict-torn Communities Announced.
<span;>Bahir Dar, June 14, 2023 (AMECO) – A $20 billion rehabilitation package for the next five years has been set up to rehabilitate the areas damaged due to the fighting in the northern part of Ethiopia.
It is disclosed that, an integrated approach needs to be made to rehabilitate and restore the facilities that were damaged during the conflict. A platform for consultation on the findings of Ethiopia’s restoration and rebuilding study was held in Addis Ababa.
In the platform a $20 billion proposal for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of conflict-affected communities over the following five years has been presented. The assessment also revealed that destruction in the regions’ social, production, infrastructure, and multiple sectors totaled $ 22.90 billion.
It is said that restoring relationships, rehabilitating the places, and consulting on the study are the goals of the consultation platform. During the event, Yilkal Kefale, head of government for the Amara region, stated that the war had an enormous effect on social and economic institutions and infrastructures. He also said that the results had been studied in collaboration with universities to determine the extent of the destruction and losses brought on by the war.
Yilkal stated that the regional administration is firmly engaged in rebuilding and establishing operations alongside the federal government and development agencies. Additionally, he urged institutions and development partners to maintain and increase their support for the long-term recovery of war-related damage.

The World Bank, the United Nations Development Programme, the European Union, and other development partners have pledged funding for Ethiopia’s rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts.
According to ENA, the government has reviewed the damages in order to offer information on the devastation, destruction, and demands caused by conflict with the technical assistance of the World Bank and development partners.
